On "Njaboot" she combines enchanting West African melodies with harmonious piano jazz sounds and her unique voice.
Born in Dakar and now living in Paris, mezzo-soprano Julia Sarr made a name for herself as a sought-after background singer and has already worked with celebrities such as Youssou NDour, Salif Keita, Oumou Sangaré, Jean-Jacques and Julio Iglesias. In addition, Julia Sarr spent several years on stage with the prestigious singer, songwriter and guitarist from Congo Lokua Kanza and also collaborated with French composer and arranger Jean-Claude Petit on his score for Raoul Peck´s historical film "Lumumba" (2010). The artist released her first album "Set Luna" in collaboration with French flamenco guitarist Patrice Larose in 2005, followed nine years later by her second album "Daraludul Yow" in collaboration with pianists Bojan Z, Samuli Mikkonen, Fred Soul, Jean-Philippe Rykiel as well as Moriba Koita on ngoni. Julia Sarr combines West African sounds with European piano jazz in her music, creating a harmony of cultures. After seven years she presents her new album "Njaboot" with a total of eleven songs. The lyrics in the main language of Senegal Wolof deal with the situation of women, childhood as well as love. Traditional percussion sounds meet soft and calm piano sounds. Sarr creates an intimate atmosphere with her fascinating, warm and soulful voice and convinces with soulful compositions.
